A place for any and all discussion about Fallout 4.Complete Fix guide for all Fallout Games. The rest of the DLC is kinda pointless unless you really get into the settlement building stuff. There's a whole town outside of the park that is used for absolutely nothing, for instance. Part of the reason why I feel like they must have made a last minute change is because Nuka-World's map is surprisingly massive, yet so little of it is used in quests. Even if you follow the Raiders there's little story, and all of the Raiders are such assholes. If you like quest and story, forget about it. If you play Fallout to explore and poke around a post-nuclear world, then I feel the environment is incredibly fun to run around in. I'm personally convinced that they made a late-minute change in development to the Raider based one that's in the game now. That being said there's a bit of a sticky point in the middle where the game suddenly transforms into a puzzle game for about an hour. Plus there's a quest where you solve a robot murder mystery which might be one of the funniest damn quests in Fallout. The environment is something we haven't seen in Fallout, the story missions lead to some tough decisions, and there's fun gear to play around with. I honestly think that Far Harbour is one of the best Fallout DLCs ever, even better than a couple of the New Vegas DLCs. IMO Nuka doesn't add a whole hell of a lot to the game, TBH.Īutomatron is a fun, small DLC that allows you to build super sweet robots. I could go into specifics about a work around (an area you can deliberately skip in vanilla that would let you do all the content in Nuka and then come back and continue with the other factions), but don't want to be a spoiler. Also high level content, the game pretty much has two modes - become a raider warlord bad guy and conquer the Commonwealth (which directly clashes with pretty much all of the factions' goals in the vanilla game), or kill every raider in Nuka World (which basically wastes the quest content since it's written assuming you'll play the way previously mentioned). ![]() IMO it's the high water mark of the DLC, where you're making some very tough choices based on whose interests you align with. It can be played either during the main quest, or after it's completed. In my opinion, that DLC is mediocre in terms of adventuring content, but YMMV.įar Harbor ("Fah Habah") is geared for higher level characters (I think that unlocks at 20?). ![]() Same situation with the DLC that adds stuff to the Vault workshop. Don't worry about anything fancier for now. Dwarves eat a few meals per season, so use the Work Orders menu to set up a recurring order of Fine Meals, five or six times your number of dwarfs, which will use three units of food and provide pretty good variety to your dwarves. Stop before it's more than 2/7 full of water for a nice coating of fertile mud. If you can't get it you'll need to do some dwarven irrigation by making wooden buckets at a carpenter shop, digging a hole with Channel, then designating that space as a Pond in the zones menu. That's easy to get in some biomes, comprising the first few z-levels beneath the earth, and very hard to find in others. To grow proper dwarven crops underground, which you probably started with seeds for, you'll want an underground area with a soil floor: silt, sand, loam, clay, mud, whatever. Dwarven farms are absurdly productive and even a small, unfertilized plot growing Plump Helmets will feed a lot of dwarves. Your farms don't need to be bigger than 2x2 or 4x4. You can place a field on any soil, under Build-W orkshops- Farming-Farm Plot. Your dwarves can theoretically drink water but it'll rapidly make them murderously upset.įarming is pretty straightforward once you get a few quirks out of the way. Your first dwarves can get along for quite a while on fishing, hunting, and foraging in most biomes, picking up wild produce and turning it into booze with the Still you built during the tutorial. (Image credit: Bay12 Games) Food and drink Dwarves are perfectly happy to have their living and eating quarters directly above or below their working spaces. Two rooms or hallways connected by a staircase have, effectively, no tiles between them-a stockpile of metal beneath your blacksmiths can sometimes be better than one beside it. I'm spelling out exact tile movement and emphasizing staircases because a key bit of design in Dwarf Fortress is about making your underground base at least somewhat vertical. Some players base their whole fortress around a central, 3x3 spine staircase, and that's a pretty solid idea for budding fortress architects. Other creatures and dwarves can get in their way, greatly slowing them down, so it's often good to make major hallways 2-3 tiles wide, and build major staircases in 2x2 blocks. It doesn't matter if that tile is flat ground, stairs, or a ramp. The only way to guarantee something can't move out of a tile is a perfect box of either natural wall or constructed walls, as even locked doors can be battered down by stronger creatures like trolls.įor a moving dwarf, one tile is one tile. They can move diagonally, and are even able to squeeze between the corners of two filled tiles. Let's get some basics established, too: units move from one tile to another at variable speeds based on their species and the like. I don't bother with a well until much later in a fort when I want it for my hospital.(Image credit: Bay12 Games) Dwarven ergonomics Getting the water to where you need it is way more complicated than just putting down a farm plot and building a Still workshop. I'd also dispute that a well is less complicated than just building a sustainable alcohol industry. ![]() I mean, I guess? But not every embark even has easily accessible clean water. Managing one bad thought is better than 2, and a well is much simpler than relying on a farm, waiting for plants to grow, waiting for your idiots to harvest it, fumbling through menus to keep them from cooking it, building a brewery, building a carpenter's workshop, building barrels, keeping them from getting filled with other stuff. O Dwarves will drink from a well and have a bad thought about no beer. O Dwarves will drink from any water supply, and have a bad thought about no well and no beer. Neither font has lowercase, but the ATF typeface is cut in a range of sizes, while Ludlow offers only one size. The ATF version by Gerry Powell was ready the following month it is narrower but has a bolder effect. Its basic letter is much like a Clarendon (compare Craw Clarendon). Hunter Middleton for Ludlow appears to have reached the market first, having been advertised in June of that year. There are two versions of the type, both issued in 1937. Mac McGrew: Stencil is a heavy roman letter with white breaks in the thinner strokes as though done with the traditional cut-out stencil. Versions of this rounded stencil typeface exist at Bitstream, Linotype (1997, a Cyrillic version by Alexey Chekulaev), URW++, Adobe and Elsner&Flake. This was a Morris Fuller Benton design from 1931 created in reaction to the popular slab serif Memphis. The Bitstream digital version was copied from the ATF Onyx typeface. The current digital version of Monotype seems to be made after the Monotype UK metal version. Lanston Monotype had a metal Onyx that was probably copied from the ATF version, and the Monotype UK metal Onyx was probably a copy of Lanston Monotype. It is believed both foundries had a deal on the exchange of some typefaces. Apparently, both were released in 1937, Onyx by ATF and Arsis by Tetterode. About Onyx versus Arsis, there has been some discussion by type lovers. Arsis is now marketed by Linotype and URW. Onyx is also cast by the Amsterdam foundry as Arsis.ĭigital versions include Onyx ( Bitstream), Onyx ( Monotype), Onyx ( Tilde), OPTI Onyx (Castcraft), and Onyx MT ( Adobe). Onyx Italic was designed by Sol Hess for Monotype in 1939, and is made as mats only by that company. Mac McGrew: Linotype classifies the typeface with Poster Bodoni, their equivalent to Ultra Bodoni. It is a modernization of Modern Roman Bold Extra Condensed, and is virtually an extra condensed version of Ultra Bodoni. Onyx was designed by Gerry Powell for ATF in 1937. He had his own design studio and became director of the American Type Founders company, commonly known as ATF. TYPE DESIGN INFORMATION PAGE last updated on |
